Wishes & Whinnies: Tyler's Dream

Written by Mary Aggas

Illustrated by Nadezhda

Written by an author with 19 years of experience with therapeutic horsemanship, this story is about hope, resilience, and thinking outside the box to follow your passions.

Tyler's disability is presented with sensitivity and knowledge, and his determination and self-confidence will inspire any reader who wonders if they'll be able to follow their dreams. In addition to offering inspiration, the story provides instruction on how therapeutic riding works and what readers can expect if they try it for themselves. Cheerful illustrations complement the uplifting tone of the story, while the short sentences and emphasis on dialogue help to support developing readers. Wishes & Whinnies: Tyler's Dream is a fantastic story for any reader who needs some reassurance that disability does not need to mean inability.

Why I wrote
WISHES & WHINNIES

Many children's books are currently being written about children facing physical challenges, but my research has shown a lack of books involving  equine assisted therapy for kids with physical or emotional challenges. Therapeutic horseback riding (also called adaptive riding) has proven benefits for this population. (You can read more about it at https://pathintl.org/benefits-of-eas.) Partnering with horses fosters long-term advantages for social, emotional, cognitive, and self-esteem healing. My hope is to get the word out about this valuable therapy in an entertaining read that kids will enjoy over and over again!
